Weaving Project- Bracelet

Description: In this lesson, we made bracelets or bookmarks by weaving yarn through a loom made of straws. We focused on Mexican culture and the importance of culture in art. We learned about the history of weaving the loom. The majority of the activity was very relaxing and therapeutic. However, trying to take the completed project off of the loom was tricky and stressful. Thankfully the instructor was able to keep a close eye and the group and help out when students struggled with this step.

Extension Activity: To extend this lesson you could have it be done over a week. Students could first learn the history of the loom and weaving practices. Next they could do a lesson on culture and its significance in art and expression. After that Students could make the craft. And finally at the end of the week the students could write a reflection about culture in their own lives and artwork.
