Mr. Padgett's Footprint

 


Description: This is my footprint decorated with things that are meaningful in my life and describe me. There are two states, Kentucky for my home and South Dakota for where I go to college. Basketball is my favorite sport and UK is my favorite team! The leaf and the waterfall drawing are to represent my love for the outdoors and cliff jumping. Lastly, the Special Olympics banner is because I am a Special Education minor and often care for my cousin with special needs.

Extension Activity: You can turn this into a fun beginning-of-the-year activity for students. It could be adapted for any grade 1-8. The activity is good to do as an introduction for students since the footprint tells about their lives. Each student would need to make one using inspiration form their life and then present it to the class to introduce themselves.

Elements and principles of design

  Description:   In this project, we were tasked with capturing images representing each element and principle of design. Once we had our photos, we worked to create a PowerPoint that defined these elements and principles, providing a way for students to further explore and understand them. Extension Activity: An activity would be to go outside on a nice day with the class and do a walk around the school. Students could then point out and describe different things that they saw that we examples of elements and principles of design.

Printmaking flower project

Description:  For this lesson, we used square pieces of Styrofoam to do printmaking. To make the design of a flower we used pencils to draw flowers onto the Styrofoam. Each student made their own flower design and chose their own paint color. I was teaching this lesson and one thing that some students struggled with was using too much paint so it would get into the crevices of the flower design when you rolled it on. Once the flower was ready students could press them onto their paper. Next Students moved from station to station pressing all of the other designs onto their paper. The vase was made by taking a piece of construction paper and folding it in half to create a shape and then cutting it out. The last steps were to glue the vase under the flowers, decorate it, and draw stems connecting the flowers. Weaving Project- Bracelet

Description: In this lesson, we made bracelets or bookmarks by weaving yarn through a loom made of straws. We focused on Mexican culture and the importance of culture in art. We learned about the history of weaving the loom. The majority of the activity was very relaxing and therapeutic. However, trying to take the completed project off of the loom was tricky and stressful. Thankfully the instructor was able to keep a close eye and the group and help out when students struggled with this step.  Extension Activity: To extend this lesson you could have it be done over a week. Students could first learn the history of the loom and weaving practices. Next they could do a lesson on culture and its significance in art and expression. After that Students could make the craft. And finally at the end of the week the students could write a reflection about culture in their own lives and artwork.
